Brett literally changed my life! I never thought the Woolsey Fire would be a blessing in disguise, but I can confidently declare that it was. November 8th 2018, the Woolsey Fire came roaring through Malibu and destroyed my guesthouse, barns, horse stables, fences and outbuildings. Thankfully my main house was spared (as were all the animals since I evacuated with them). I hired Brett shortly after I was able to move back into my house and we immediately started the design and permitting process. He adeptly helped me navigate the Malibu permitting maze with the various different departments. Since I have a 5-acre property, he had somewhat of a blank canvas in which to design the perfect enclave that both maximized Malibu’s rebuild specifications and also incorporated my future lifestyle needs. Under Malibu’s expedited fire rebuild process, we were able to secure multiple permits for a new state-of-the-art OWTS required by the city to support the expanded square footage and fixtures; the new and improved guesthouse (+10%) which was relocated from the original location to take advantage of a magnificent ocean view; a new pool near the main house; a new 2-car garage; and last but not least, a 1000 SF expansion of the main house, adding two additional bedrooms with en suite bathrooms, an expanded chef’s kitchen and adjacent sun room, and an outdoor entertaining area. Ten months after construction began, we completed the guesthouse. Four months later, we completed the main house, pool, etc. His vision of what was possible allowed me to transform my life as I entered retirement age. I was able to rent out the 4000 SF main house and move into my new and improved 880 SF guesthouse, generating passive income that not only pays my mortgage, taxes, insurance, and living expenses, but also allows me to contribute significantly to retirement savings.
